Congratulations to our Senior Boys A Basketball team who have made history again by making the Premier Grade Basketball Final where they will face local rivals Onslow.
In the Semi Final, the team faced off against Hutt Valley High who had qualified as the number 1 team and had only lost one game during the regular season. The team was down at the end of every quarter and in the final quarter they were 94-91 down before Zyrus Grace tucked away a 3 pointer to level things up and take the game to overtime.
In overtime the team was 105-101 down with 18 seconds left, Zyrus Grace nailed a 3 pointer with 4 seconds left and then Hutt Valley called a time out with 3.5 seconds left. At the resumption Danon Swanson somehow snatched the ball from the sideline before running down the court to finally give the team the lead with 0.1 seconds to go. When the ball fell short from the Hutt Valley attempt, Newlands had made the final.
