Victoria Green makes Athletics Wellington Development Squad

Congratulations to Victoria Green who has been named as part of the 2017 intake of 19 athletes for the Athletics Wellington Athlete Development (AWAD) squad.

According to Athletics Wellington:

This year the focus is on potential and continual improvement, not just whether you have made a performance standard.

The athletics side of the Sports Wellington Talent ID programme is headed by Wairarapa coach Mark Harris.

“We are looking for performance potential,” Mark said.

AWAD is a regional based programme in Wellington. The programme is managed by Athletics Wellington with support from Sport Wellington and identifies and develops talent. Each sport is allocated funding from the Wellington City Council to develop their talented young athletes and coaches.

Those accepted had to apply to be part of the programme, and undertake a screening and interview process based on their performance, their potential to improve, their training environment, and their resilience, including goal setting processes. Of the 32 who applied, just under two thirds were accepted based on the assessment.
