On Monday the Newlands Intermediate turfs were officially opened by MP Peter Dunne. Work on the turfs were finished at 8.30am prior to the opening ceremony at 9am. There are 2 turfs in place, one turf specifically caters for football and rugby whilst there is also another turf which will be suitable for netball, hockey and tennis amongst other sports.
Newlands College girls hockey team was the first user of the hockey turf on the Monday afternoon whilst the football and rugby teams will start using the turf on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon. This will mean practices do not need to be cancelled due to fields being out of action which is a benefit other schools who already have access to turfs have found. Congratulations to Newlands Intermediate on this great facilty, we look forward to using it over the next few years.
