340 people packed into the hall for the biggest ever Celebration of Sport. Tickets sold out inside 2 days and due to unprecented demand extra capacity was made available. On the evening students heard from current Paralympian and former Newlands College parent Kate Horan talking about her journey through life and her achievements in reaching 3 Paralympics.
The Premier Award winners on the evening were:
STUDENT COACH OF THE YEAR: awarded to the student coach who has made the biggest improvement to the perfoance of a team and who has seen to be particularly effective in developing individuals within a team
Recipient: Daphne Martinez
TEAM OF THE YEAR: for the team reaching the highest levels in sport
Recipient: Junior A Girls Basketball
P.E. DEPARTMENT TROPHY: Junior Sports Person of the Year. For outstanding contribution to sport at the Junior level.
Recipient: Te Aratu Maihi
HORNAL TROPHY: Awarded to the student reaching the highest levels in sport.
Recipient: Salote-Alison Taufa
KILLARA TROPHY: For outstanding leadership and contribution to sport in the school on and off the field of play
Recipient: Liam Collins
DEB MILLS TROPHY: Sports Person of the Year – female. For the female student who has achieved the highest level in sport and represented the College in a variety of sports
Recipient: Emily Thompson
MORRIS BARLING TROPHY: Sports Person of the Year – male. For the male student who has achieved the highest level in sport and represented the College in a variety of sports
