Report by Mr Hueston, head of the Newlands College Bowls Squadron:
The Newlands College Bowls Squadron played at the CSW Singles and Pairs Bowls Champs yesterday at Silverstream.
It was a great day and we continued our great run of success.
Girls Pairs
Victoria Bain & Georgia Bain (Winners)
Were consistent all day. 5 Wins 1 Draw. These girls won the tournament again for the 3rd year in a row! Fantastic Effort
Natasha Smith and Nicole Singh – Runners up
4 Wins, 1 Draw 1 Losses. The loss was by 1 point. Played well all day. Could say that were unlucky not to win as their only loss was by 1 point.
Sharanya Panda & Keira Arnold
1 Win, 1 Draw, 4 Losses. The new team on the block. Had some tough games with close losses in most games. Pushed Victoria and Georgia right to the final bowl in the last game of the game. Watch this space in the years to come!
Boys Pairs
We had 4 teams in the competition. Most all very inexperienced and all picked up wins.
Brandon Ru & Ryan Curry 2 Wins, 4 Losses
Keani Dev & Thomas Ru 2 Wins 1 Draw, 3 Losses
Alex Ritchie and Nathan Ryan 4 Wins, 2 Losses
Lucus Aukuso & Max Morrone (Runners Up) 5 Wins, 1 Loss
The boy’s section was super tight. Going into the last round (Lucas & Max) & (Alex & Nathan) were tied with the eventual winners Onslow College on 4 Wins 1 Loss. Bowls can be a cruel sport where a loss by 1 point can tear dreams apart.
Lucas and Max ended up tied equal with the winners but lost by points differential.
Andrew Morgan participated in the Boys singles winning 2 from 4 games. His losses can players who are currently playing club bowls.
Big thank you to Paul Anquetil who was a great help supervising one of the Greens. He probably did more running than the players.
A great day.
