1st XI Cricket team lose Premier 2 Final

The College 1st XI ended a successful season with a disappointing result in the Premier 2 final. Chasing Wellington College’s 179 all out, the team ended up 29 runs short. In the first innnings Edward Soung (Y12) took 3-26 as Wellington were bowled out inside 46 overs.

In reply Newlands slumped to 64-5 before a partnership of 60 between Edward and Haydon Smith bought the team within sight of victory. Unfortunately when Haydon fell for another good score of 71 the team was unable to complete the job.

Despite the result the team will be playing in the Premier 1 grade in term 4.

Congratulations to the team for their efforts this season. Special mention to Hayden Smith who ended up 2nd in the competition batting averages having batted 8 innnings to make 542 to the leading players 9 innings of 545. These runs were made at a Bradmanesque average of 108.40! (Bradman only managed an average of 99.94)

Also deserving of a mention is Danny Chafe who finished 5th in the batting charts whilst he came 3rd in the bowling charts only 1 wicket behind the leading wicket taker with 17 wickets.
