Newlands fielded a team of 4 for the North Island Secondary Schools Championship swimming competition.
Ethan Cheng was our male swimmer and competed in 3 events. He finished first in his class winning a towel. He swum 200 freestyle which he had not before and 2 other events where he achieved personal best times over 2 seconds.
In the girls competition we had Hannah Campbell, Amy Teekman and Mirtiam Kirby. This too produced some great results. Amy Teekman achieved a top 3 placing in the 50M freestyle and 2 other top 5 positions, Hannah Campbell achieved 1st place in the 200 Fly and 2 top 10 placings, Miriam Kirby achieved 6th place in the 100 Back. Overall a great result given all our girls were 13 swimming against 14 and under age group. They finished 8th position overall again a great result with no swimmers in the over 15 age group.
The team achieved well and represented Newlands College in the spirit of the school competing hard but fairly.
They are now looking forward to Nationals in September.
Thanks to Clive Kirby for taking the team.
