Boys 1st XI Football come 4th at Rex Dawkins Tournament

Our 1st XI Boys had an excellent return to Winter Tournament week finishing 4th in the Rex Dawkins competition in Taupo after a gruelling 7 games. The tournament started badly with a 2-1 loss to Hawkes Bay school Lindisfarne before the boys bounced back to finish 2nd in the group with wins against Taupo Nui a Tau (6-1) and Pakuranga, Auckland (2-1).

In the round of 16, the boys put away Christs, Christchurch (3-1) before beating Rosmini, Auckland (3-1) in the quarter final. For the semi final, the boys took on St Pats Silverstream who play in the league above Newlands in the local competition. Despite numerous chances, the boys fell to a 1-0 loss. In the 3/4th place playoff the boys came up against local rivals Kapiti who are in the same division but unfortunately could not finish with a win and lost 2-1.

The final saw Rathkeale overturn St Pats (3-1)

Congratulations to the boys and thanks to Braydon, Mr Lambert and Mr Chafe for looking after the boys. A special thanks to ex-student Alex Chafe who stepped into help with coaching during the week.
